World Of Warcraft Advice……?

My boyfriend and I are thinking of getting World of Warcraft and playing together but I've been reading all drugs without a prescription sort of bad stuff.
Anyone out there play? Do you feel it is life consuming and grossly addictive? Also, what type of equipment should we get to play? (already have a beefy pc) Also, what is the monthly cost in US dollars?
