-Level in frost to keep enemies away from you.
-Keep a potion or two on hand for hard battles,
-Don’t waste money buying gear (save it for your mount and skills),.
-Pick your professions good and early and try to level them as you go. It’s easier to do it now than it is to backtrack at max level.
-Don’t randomly spend talent points, try to focus on maxing out individual talents and working up the tree.
-Download a questing mod, I recommend Carbonite and Tourguide. Tourguide is a free step by step guide from 1-70+ and it syncs with Carbonite which shows you where your objectives are.
-Try not to get distracted by helping people and running dungeons early on unless you just want to do it for fun. People are always going to be looking for help and groups and more often than not they end up being a major time sink for little gain. Fun but not conducive to leveling fast and efficiently.
-Always log out in an Inn for maximum rested EXP.
-Don’t spam the trade channels with nonsense.
I have a lowbie alt mage myself and its important to understand the basics as Flavor has put out there but I can add a few pointers:
If you’re on a PvE (Player versus Environment) server, the best stats to look for on gear (equipment like chest and legs) is one that has spellpower (a must since the more you have the harder you hit someone), stamina and intellect. Spirit can be okay if all other stats are present beforehand. Avoid attack power or strength as these stats are primarily for a melee DPS (Damage per second role) and not a ranged spell DPS like yourself. You wear cloth and cloth only so when you’re doing random dungeons or a raid you can only focus on cloth gear.
Always keep yourself buffed (casting spells that increases your attributes) and keep an eye out on the top right hand corner every now and then. If you’re that good you’ll notice it w/o having to look. Also, when you’re casting you don’t have to wait till you see the spell attack the person.
On the bottom of your screen your hotkeys have a cooldown (time that you are not able to cast) and its shown in a clockwork motion indicating when it is time to cast again. When that hotkey is flashed or the cooldown is finished cast that same attack again or cast something else. This gives you to become more time and damage efficient when you’re attacking a mob (enemy NPC).
The experience I learned was from great advice but the research that you do on your own is the most cherished. Here are some great legit websites to visit if you have any more questions:

Good luck.
Edit: Also be ready to be more mana conservative as after level 15, the mana regen drops from 150% to normal rates. This meaning you will have to use mana drinks every single mob fight. If you’re low on mana use frost spells to slow your enemy and wand them all the way down to kill.
For leveling up, I would recommend going into the frost tree for your talents. (You start getting them at level 10.) You won’t notice a HUGE difference until you’ve spent a lot of talent points in one talent tree, so don’t get discouraged if, at level 20, you still don’t feel frost is super great. It only gets better
If you want, you can visit the official WoW mage forums online and look through the sticky threads there. There should be a talent spec leveling guide somewhere!
When it comes to professions, I recommend picking at least one gathering profession (herbalism, mining, skinning). You can even do 2 gathering professions. Remember, you can always change your profession later. (It’s easier to level a new profession when you’re level 80.)
Additional pointers:
- Doing quests is generally the fastest way to level. Just fighting enemies for no reason is not as fast.
- Getting an add-on like Quest Helper should make your questing a little faster.
- Any time a quest is not clear, you can visit wowhead.com, search for the quest, and read the comments in green text. They are usually very helpful.
- Occasionally, it’s faster to just skip a quest, if it’s too frustrating or taking too long.
- If questing gets boring, signing up for a random dungeon or some PvP action will get you some experience. I find that doing a dungeon per day really helps break up the monotony of questing, even if the experience per hour is slower.
- Once you get to a high enough level to do Alterac Valley (51 or higher, I believe), it’s a PvP battleground that’s actually fast for leveling. Do it a few times a day for some extra experience points and fun.
- It’s usually best to join a casual leveling guild to you have people to talk to while you play. Part of this game is making friends after all
- Try to get bigger bags if you can afford them. Running out of inventory space is a constant hassle as you level.
Our founding fathers didnt want a party system cuz they said it would divide the nation. Judging from what ive seen on YA! alone, I have to agree.

Thank you very much indeed! I tried searching here and there on the web but I got more and more confused. I had a strong grasp of these two words when I saw your video. I thank you very much for your time.
