Can you play world of warcraft without expansions?

Question by life r good =): Can you play world of warcraft without expansions?
I used to play wow a long time ago I even have the game installed on my computer and I'm thinking of playing again but now theres a bunch of expansions like the lich king and cataclysm. Do you need to have the expansions to play? Like if you have cataclysm do you need the lich king to play it?

I consider myself a new player to wow because I forgot most of everything and theres all this new stuff so yea

no, you'll still be on vanilla with a max level cap of 60
